"Saving Sugar Gliders Through Education & Rescue"
GLIDER FIRST AID
Because sugar gliders are VERY good at masking their pain and not "seeming" ill when they actually are, it is important that you watch them closely for anything at all out of the ordinary in the way they look, act, respond, move, sound, or smell. At the FIRST sign that something is different or seems strange, DO NOT HESITATE. Look your glider over carefully to assess them for obvious injuries or ailments. If the problem is OBVIOUS and your glider is in distress, WASTE NO TIME... GET YOUR GLIDER TO A VET IMMEDIATELY.
*
You can use the links on this page to help you find the 24 hour emergency vet nearest you, and if you are not in a location or postion to get them there... GET ADVICE from a glider knowledgable non-vet on the forum pages at Glider Central, LGG, or SESG via the links on this page IMMEDIATELY. Acting quickly may not only save you a more costly vet bill if the problem exists too long without treatment, IT MAY SAVE YOUR GLIDER'S LIFE.
*
It is VERY important that you know how to do a "tent test" because gliders can become dehydrated very quickly. To test for dehydration, gently pull the skin between their shoulders upwards. If the skin stays tented (up) for 4 seconds or more they will need to be given liquids fast! Pedialyte, Juice, Water, Gatorade, Gliderade, or liquidy fruit... and get them to a vet ASAP for subcutaneous fluids.
*
Dehydration can KILL very quickly
in gliders.
